| Enlivening Stonemasonry In South
Africa |

What is Stonemasonry?
Masonry is one of the oldest professions
in the world. Its history can be traced back to the Egyptian and
South American Pyramids, as well as ancient aqueducts in the Near
East. Its history goes hand-in-hand with the development of masonry
materials, tools, engineering and architecture.
Stone Masonry deals with a wide
range of stone materials, such as: granite, marble, sandstone, limestone,
etc. It consists of a wide range of skills & activities employed
in building & construction, utilising these stone materials.
What do Stonemasons do?
Stonemasons build walls and structures
using stones. They also create attractive and durable surfaces and
structures, such as: walkways, floors, walls and fireplaces. They
also fix old buildings and decorative stonework, be it removing
damaged material, repairing cracks, or making extra reinforcement.
Stonemasons work with natural stone
(i.e. granite or marble) & artificial stone (i.e. concrete &
marble chips).
